We spent the night in the small town, Lahaina. It is a quite, historic whaling village. But, trips are not all sunshine and rainbows…. the toilet overflowed before we could get back on the road, it was quite the mess to clean up!
After the run in with the sea urchin and our day trip to Lanai, it was time to explore Maui’s famous Road to Hana. The Road to Hana is located on Maui’s Eastern Coastline is known for the whopping 620 curves and many one-lane bridges that keep you gripping the “Oh Crap!” bar in even the smallest of cars. There are multiple locations to pull off and take in the tropical views though so it is worth it!
The coast line of Maui is built with step cliffs and sharp edges that just suck you in. We stopped to enjoy this view and felt the strong winds that were sweeping in a rain storm. It honestly was some of the strongest winds I have ever felt. It was hard to even stand up and walk normally if a big gust came through.
When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we took the Kuloa Point Trail and hiked in to explore Ohe’o Gulch up close! The short jaunt was SO Worth it! Even though it was very rainy and cloudy, it was still awesome be see it up close!

We took the time to hike to the Seven Sacred Pools. While not all of the pools are sacred, each one is a unique treasure. The amount of waterfalls and beaches along the Road to Hana is why it is such an amazing route to drive! We ended the day watching a some water gliding at Ho’okipa Beach Park! Then it was off to Kauai!
